?s 2,3,5 on pg 293

2. I think blogs shouldn't be able to reveal any secret information like military weapons, also they should be appropriate or have warnings for any blog with inappropriate content. I see how blogs can distribute power by allowing someones voice to be heard.

3.I normally don't but very much information online it normally my name and maybe my birthday or a hobby but nothing else, I don't have a Facebook so hardly any info is online. People might be able to find a little out about me but not very much I don't take steps to protect it I just don't put much up.

5.No I do not agree, I think the exact opposite, that everyone has a right to access internet. That is why they have computers in some libraries. I don't know what would take away someones right to use the internet. I think the internet is helpful so people should be able to use it.

Do you agree with Michal Powell that no one has a "right" to the Internet?

I disagree: I don't need permission to go online, nor do I need permission to express my freedom of speech.  I have the right to argue with someone in chat, the right to use language, the right to express my personal thoughts if I so choose, the right to reveal information on the internet (No matter how dumb it may be), the right to post, share, upload, or use information on the Internet; the list goes on and on.  So where do I not have a right to the Internet?  How do I not have a right to something that is open to everyone, open to the public.  What's the point of publicity if I don't have the right to use it?  I don't need permission by anyone to use the Internet, and I'm not going told by some pompous yoink tell me what rights I can or cannot have.  I have the right to call him that, too.  The amendment rights show us what we can do, whereas laws tell us what we can't do; we have the same laws and rights for the Internet as well, however broken or underused it may be.  We have rights, but we also have laws: Fix them, present them, and enforce them.  But don't ever... EVER... tell me that using the Internet is not a right. ~Collin

2.
The controls should be that they shouldn't allow swearing or any obscene pictures. They also should have a person who watches the blogs to make sure that there isn't anything frowned upon going on. It is a way to distribute power because you may become popular with blogs and that popularity will give you enough power to manipulate people.
3.
I do make some of my personal information available online. It's only available to my friends on Facebook though. There isn't really any important information on there. I'm pretty comfortable with my security because it's only like my name, birthday, and boyfriend. I don't take any steps to protect my information.
5.
I agree because internet is kind of our culture now. We grow up in a society where everyone who has internet access or top notch technology is "cool." So, therefore, nobody really has a "right" to the internet.

2. What controls should be placed on blogs? 3. do you ever make personal info available online? 5.

2. Though I feel that blogs have not gotten as much buzz as they used to due to other forum on the internet such as Facebook and Twitter. I don't think there should be too much restriction on blogs if none at all. blogs have gotten so many wide categories such as news, updates, cooking recipes, etc. Therefore in sense of censorship, I believe that there should be none. If you were to ask yourself what if it's not appropriate for younger audiences then just put a notice. With every incident people fail to accept the fact that at the end of the day its the user's fault if their offended.

3. Yes I have and it was a mistake. The Fact that I can be searched just by typing my name scares me. I have a system where people can't search me I can only search them.

5. I Disagree. The internet is a world wide forum that should be free, saying that something ultimately made for the public shouldn't be able to be accessed by public is wrong.

#s 2,3, & 5 on pg.293

2. There are many controls i believe should be put into place on blogs. On a blog i believe that there shouldn't be vulgarity. I believe that unless it is a 18+ blog there shouldn't be any graphic sexual stories or nudity of any sort. These are obvious guidelines that should be put into place

3. If i put personal information online i don't put it out for the public to see it is only shared with those I know and trust completely. I am very confident that it is secure seeing how i only give it to family members and very close friends. By doing this i rarely have to take steps to protect my privacy.

5. Yes I completely agree internet access is not a right it is a privilege to be able to use the internet. If you commit a internet related crime this privilege can easily be taken away or monitored. But, if you only use the internet for anything except crime then the privilege is all yours and it shouldn't be taken away from you.

Do you ever make personal information available online?

I have never revealed any information willingly on the internet.  I don't even own a Facebook or Twitter account, and if I had, I would still use a pen name rather than my real name.  Being anonymous on the internet is one of the number one things I consider; even something as simple as my age or state isn't shared.  That's not to say that I would NEVER use "personal information" for certain things, like registering for a website, but if I can sign up for a site while using as little PI as possible, I would.  The steps I take are as follows:
A. I will never reveal my age.
B. I will never reveal the location of my home, but if necessary, reveal only hints, such as the country or state I am in.
C. If I come into an argument/debate/conversation and explicit language is engaged, be mature and don't swear much and completely avoid personal attacks.  Block anyone who personally threatens you unless it is the most ridiculous, childish, and unrealistic threat you have ever seen or heard.
D. Don't break the rules above.  If you do... don't.

Questions 2,3, and 5

2. I don't think we should have any control over blogs. Blogs are ways where people express themselves. They are ways where we get our information from. They should be open to everyone to express themselves. It is a way to meet new people that share the same compassion as you. Now if a person is offending others by what they are posting, then that is a whole new story. At that point they could have guidelines. So yes it is a way of distributing power in the culture.

3.Yes,I have! When I shop online I give my credit card information. That is as far as I go. I am pretty confident about the security, because when I shop I make sure the web site is a good one. Make sure the web site is trust worthy. I take all the steps i need to protect myself.

5. No! Why would the internet be created if it wasn't met for people to access it? I think everyone has the right to access the internet. There shouldn't even be a question about that. Today everything we do is based on the internet. That is how we get our information, it is how we cook and eat, it is how we pick what college to go to or what clothe to wear. Without the internet i don't think we will be where we are today.

Do you agree with Michael Powell that no one has a "right" to Internet access?

No, I do not agree with him.  Everyone has the right to be on the internet.  Its a free place to find information so everyone should be able to access it.  Therefore I do not agree with him.

Questions p.293

2) I believe that controls that sort through comments and pictures and discards the inappropriate ones should be placed on blogs. Yes, a blog does give you more distribution power. The reason blogs give more power is that you can post a message whenever you want.

3) No I have not put my personal information; Birth Date, Address, and stuff; on the internet. If I have it has really only been like my name and email and usually it is for websites that I trust because I heard of it as a good reference from my family or the school.

5) No I do not agree. Internet was made to be used for research, to better man-kind. It is for everyone because it started like that.

Do you agree with Michael Powell that no one has the "right" to internet access?

Yes I do agree with Michael Powell, because being on the internet is a privilege. If you mess up you won't be able to use it anymore. Some people just shouldn't be able to use the internet.

-Daniel Balcom

Do you agree with Michael Powell that no one has a "right" to Internet access?

Yes  I do agree with him. You can find anyone you want on Google. It's too much, you'll eventually find some sort of record on a person. If you look up yourself you'll still find information about yourself, even if you don't even stand out at all. It's not fair because if someone wanted to they could silently violate you without being tracked at all. It's also a violation of our rights because we have to deal with our personal information being out there regardless. In a sense then, you have to pray that no one will look you up and find your personal information.

Question #5

Yes I do agree that everyone has a right to internet access. People might use the internet to see photos of family that they don't see very often, or talk to friends that they don't see that much either. All people have a reason and a right to have internet access.

The only time I think that a person should not have internet access is if they have committed a crime on the internet. At that point I think that that person should not have the right. You never know if they would do that crime again and most people don't want to take that chance.

Do you ever make personal information available online?

No I don't usually make my personal info available online, but if I do, I try make make sure that it is      "secure" so that only the people I allow to see it can see it.  I am partially confident that that the piece of information is private. I also take steps to ensure that my information is secure.

-Daniel Balcom

2, 3, and 5 on Pg. 293

2.
I think controls should be placed on blogs for certain blogs if any. They should be placed on blogs run by kids under 13. Controls such as the language (cursing) or pictures they project. Blogs are more focused on the younger generation the generation that works on computers. Mainly because an older lady will not learn to use blogs just to see or view them.
3.
I do put myself out there, online I mean. The most personal info though, is my birthday. If I was to put my address online I probably wouldn't feel safe. I do take steps to protect myself from online predators, ECT. I feel like the info that is on facebook or twitter or other social media, is safe and that I don't put too much out there.
5.
Yes, no one necessarily had the "Right" to access. It is bought though so it makes me think, It is my right. No one has the right to do anything they want online but, it is to be used as a tool or entertainment or other things. Now if you stream Wi-Fi from your neighbors you don't have any right to use it. It all depends.

What controls should be placed on blogs, if any?

There should be a limited, yet efficient, amount of control for the Internet, or in this case, blogs.  There must be a way to control the Internet that does not involve the destruction of anonymity, abuse of the power over the Internet, or destroying privacy.  If the blog contains bad content, such as language or explicit images, then mark it and warn visitors before hand.  There is a reason that internet filters and monitors exist; to control what can or cannot be seen.  We have all the power to avoid these things, but who has the right or power to enforce it?  Family?  Government?  Website owners?  It's our choice to make if we want to put a large amount of monitoring or a minimal amount of monitoring.  If there is clearly cyberbullying on a blog and it is obviously affecting the victim, then the account should be flagged or shut down by the website admins or owner(s).  Make a better account system: people who are banned or shut down can simply create a new account, make sure that those kind of people can't create new accounts for a period of time.  We have this capability to prevent most of these things on the internet, we just need to have the willpower and avoid taking the easy way out, which at the end, affect more people negatively.  ~Collin Blasing

Question #3

Yes, on Facebook I will put in where I am going or what I am doing. I put posts on when I am going to my cabin for the weekend or when I get the house to myself tonight. Most teens, like me, don't think that bad things could happen by putting things like that online.

And when you create a Facebook, one of the things you get asked to enter is your phone number. I did put mine in but at first I didn't realize that other people could see it. Once I found that out I made it so only I could see my phone number on there. I didn't want people that I don't know texting me.

Do you ever make personal information available online?

Yes I do have information online.  I am completely confident with the security I often check if the security is actually working.  I put the privacy setting on on all of my info so that only my friends can see it.  I also only add people that I know.

media lit. 2,3,5 pg.293

2. People should be able to say what ever they want, but there are consequences to what you say.
3. Some times I put thinks online that i shouldn't of put on there and I'm not very confident about its security.
5. I agree that not all people have a right to INTERNET access, because there could be people out there that are bad and have bad habit.

2,3, and 5 on Pg.293

Question 2:

I think blogs are a great way to get the public's opinion on big matters or even small things. it gives you a second or multiple views instead of one; the media/governments. I definitely see how having blogs allows you to "distribute the power".

Question 3

I never but personal information online. I know that anything you put online can be found and used in any way. i am very careful not to put any compromising things online. I do take steps to protect me. i always recheck what i want to say or put online before i do and if im not sure i get a second or third opinion.

Question 5

I do not agree with micheal powell. i believe we all have the right to the internet. its a giant bank of intelligence even sites like facebook or twitter are a huge contributor into studying the ever evolving habits of humans. we all have a right to it even if not everyone or most are using it in the way it was made.

Those three questions on p.293

2: I don't think there should be any restrictions placed on blogs. Of course they are a way of distributing power in the culture between traditional media outlets and ordinary materials.
3: I only make basic personal information available online, never things like my address, phone number, or things like that.
5: No. Everyone has a right to access the internet because they make up a part of it.

Q.5

Everybody has the right to have internet access. Everyone uses internet. Many college students for homework, Parents for bills and things, Kids for games. We all use the internet for jobs and bills and homework stuff. We deserve to use the internet. No one should take that right away from us.

Do You Ever Make Personal Information Available Online?

Personally with that question, I don't. There are those people that you should never trust. If they do something that interferes about it, they never think twice about it. I have no faith in some security because what if the person the correct items for everything. Or what if they hacked into something and guessed your debt card numbers? You can't trust everyone and if you do there's always going to be that one little sneak.

What controls should be placed on blogs, if any?

No I don't think there should be any controls or restrictions put on blogs, because there would be no way to figure out each and every blog that is doing something "wrong," and no way to determine if that something is morally or ethically wrong, but who would determine whats right or wrong. No this isn't a way of distributing power. Its just something where people can say and/or do almost anything they want.

-Daniel Balcom

questions 2,3 and 5

2) For blogs, I think there should be some restrictions depending on what kind of blog website it is. If it is a children kind of website, then there should be some kind of restrictions to language and be more "appropriate." If it like a blog like this one on here, then there shouldn't because everyone has the right of what they want to say. It is the freedom of speech and it should stay that way.

3)  I make like the information that is online is basically my name and the general area where I am so it is saying I live in a city and that is it. I'm not confident about if the online will make all "secure." If you ever searched yourself, you will probably going to find something that has something about you that is true. I really just pay attention to what the personal information the website is asking if it something too personal like my address, I would leave the website.

5) I kind of agree with the statement. I can understand that there is hackers and go into your profile and stuff. Sometimes if it that kind of person should not go on to the internet. If it is just a page that no one likes or anything. They should still have the right to access the internet because it is just saying their opinion, but if that person is just being mean for no reason and harassing everyone on the internet then s/he should not have the right to go on the internet. If it is a predator and does some creepy things then she shouldn't have the right as well.

Question #2

There should be no controls on blogs. Some people use blogs as a way to put what they feel down so they can get it out. Some people don't like talking to other people about their problems so they use blogs for that.

I don't think that there should be controls on blogs because people should be able to say what they want when they want to say it. It is their way of getting things out.

Question Five

I'm not really sure if I agree or not.

#5 do you agree with michael powell

Some what, because we have a right like the first amend. so we can post anything we want, but the government can monitor what we post. We are limited on what we can do. I don't agree with him all the way, because of these things that the government monitors like facebook and other popular sites.

What controls should be placed on blogs, if any? Do you see them as a way of distributing power in the culture between traditional media outlets and ordinary individuals? Why or why not?

I personally believe that there should be no controls on blogs.  A blog is a place where people can get stuff of of their chest.  Its there own little place where they can be in charge.  Who cares what people put on their blog, its their blog and if you don't like it go somewhere else you don't need to listen to them if you don't like what they are saying.

Personal Info, Question Three

I don' t have hardly any personal information online. I have a few movies and books that I like, but that's about it. I don't have my last name, address, or where I go to school at online because the people who I'm friends with already know or can ask me. I am not really confident in the privacy of the internet.

Question 3.

I don't really have anything online, and the things I do, I'm careful with what I post. I don't post my location or phone number or anything. Plus I have a very secure password. So nobody can figure it out. The steps to keep my privacy is that im private, and I don't say anything important.

Question 2: What control should be placed on blogs, if any?.....

I don't think we should have any control over blogs. Blogs is a way where people share their thoughts and events with others. It is a way some people express themselves. Not everything people write on blogs are true or real, but it is good to share our thoughts. It is a way to communicate and meet mew people. So yes they are a way of distributing power in the culture.

#3 do you ever make personal info..

I try to have as less personal information as I can online, because people can get into it. I'm only confident if the site is backed up by a .org or .gov. If it's not one of these, I try not to put things on it. If it asks for more than is needed, I forget about it. I try to make sure that what I put on is true.

Do people have the "right" to internet access?

I don't agree with Michael that no one has the right to internet access. Because it's such a common thing nowadays and to take it away from people would probably hinder them. If we did get our internet rights taken away then people would find even more sneakers ways to get on it, since we're so pron to it.

What controls should be placed on blogs? Question Two

Controls should be placed on blogs because people should be able to have their privacy. However, some people abuse privacy. People shouldn't be able to say whatever they want, using bad language and destructive ideas without first warning people what they will be reading. For instance, if a young kid were to accidentally stumble across a blog with profanity, his parents would not be thrilled about that. So, controls, to a certain degree are necessary and helpful, but not too many.

What Controls should be placed on blogs, if any?

What controls should be on blogs should be clean and moral ones. They shouldn't allow major swear words, they also shouldn't allow dirty talk, and they shouldn't allow dirty pictures. A lot of blogs have the pictures, but they should strive at the others too. It doesn't make it enjoyable for people to read something interesting and then hear a whole rant with the f bomb being used or just filthy talk. They have the power to make things enjoyable for everyone, but they should be for everyone, not just a small filthy group. People like to have pleasure and a lot of the language people use today, isn't enjoyable to listen to or read. It's going away from traditional media because it allows now whatever, and that's not always a good thing. Think about it from this illustration, if you let several dogs off a leash, are all of them going to stay or will some run?

#2 What controls should be placed on blogs...

I believe that controls should not be added to a blog, because it goes against the 1st amend. We have the power to freely put what we want to on the internet. They should allow the people to put what they want to online, but when it is a thing that can hurt someone, then there should be controls.

Do you ever make personal info online?

I do make some of my setting online personal. But not to the extent of putting my phone number out there for everyone to see. Just where I grew up and where I live and where I've been to school. But I guess I don't really believe in hackers until it actually happens to me. I don't think people really care to hack my account specifically because I don't have enough information to even get hacked into.

Question: 2

I think people should be allowed to say what they want, and that they shouldn't control what people blog. I think that blogging can distribute power. Depends on what you blog about. Everyone has the right to say what they think.

What controls should be placed on blogs...

I think having the setting of blocking certain people from seeing your posts. Such as blocking any people you're not friends with. I think it would add additional security to those who are constantly posting on blogs and social media.

question 5

i think that everyone should have the right to internet access, just like you have the right to most other things. it's not like it's necessary to have internet but i think everyone should have the right.

question #5

Well, I guess you should have a right, but then if you bully or steal identity's then you shouldn't even be on the internet. It depends on who you are but it is a free country so everyone should have a right to the internet.

question 3

yes i do make my information available on facebook, not all of it though. i'm pretty sure of my privacy because i don't post very important information or anything on there.

the steps i took to protect my privacy is basically just the privacy settings and don't post stupid stuff.

Question 5

No, we all need internet to do our jobs. We need Internet to play games and to talk to friends. We all have a right to the Internet and nobody should take it away from us.

Question #3

No I don't. If I did then it wouldn't be secure because everyone can see it , and they can use it and share it! No I don't have anything online, but if I did it wouldn't be to even put it online. If you put passwords, and usernames you shouldn't let anyone know it.

5 - JARED

I think everyone should have the right to use the internet because it is full of useful information. Even though there are not so good things on the internet the pros outweigh the cons for internet. In summery i do not agree with Michael Powell, i believe everyone should have the right to have access to the internet.

Question 5

No, I do not agree with Michael Powell that no one has a right to internet access. People have a right to have the internet because it's available and people should use it.

Question 3

I only have Facebook and that only tells my name and my profile picture. I don't really have any confident. I made my Instagram set to private.

question 2 Mathijs

question 2

i don't think there should not be any controls on blogs so people can do whatever they want.

i do see blogs as a powerful tool for some people to distribute news, i don't think it has as much of an influence on society that it really is a problem though.

question #2

I don't think they should have control when people blog, and they should have a right to say what they want. Yes, it does distribute power, between traditional out lets and individuals. Everyone has a right to say what they think, and that is distributed throughout all the media.

Question 3

I do not ever make my personal information available online. But, I am very confident of its security when I do. I take many steps to protect my privacy by not putting very personal information online and not giving my email to websites.

3

Sometimes I do when im making an account on a website it asks for personal information. Other than that i dont give out my personal information online because that would not be a smart idea because i could have my identity stolen. yes, i take steps to protect my security by installing anti virus and looking up if things are reliable before signing up for it.

Question 2

No, I think blogs are just fine the way they are. I think blogs are dumb and only used for schools. I don't think they are a way of distributing power. Blogs are just a way of talking between people. Blogs are less popular compared to other ways of talking to people.

5

I do not completely agree with Michael Powell. I think everybody has a right to use the internet. The internet is a great resource and you can find lots of weird and fun things on it. But if some terrorist is trying to use it to hack into our national defense system i think he shouldn't be allowed to do that. The internet is not owned by anyone so how could any ones right to use it be taken away. No one has the right to take any ones right to use the internet away.

2 by jared

I dont think they should have any restrictions on blogging. It is a free country and we have freedom of speech. Blogs are a great way to distribute information to the general public as well as reporters and news sources. Although blogs may not always be reliable they can still be intresting and good for information gathering.

internet rights

yes i agree. Not everyone has the privelage or luxury of the internet. Therefore it is not a right, It is honestly something this world could go without, we don't need it.
-Landon k

Question 2

I do not think that any controls should be placed on blogs because they are fine how they are. I do not see them as a way of distributing power in the culture between traditional literature media outlets and ordinary individuals because blogs aren't read by enough people to be that influential with traditional media outlets and other people.

Question #5

I disagree with Michael Powell because as people of the United States, we have every right to the internet and anything it has to offer. I don't know what is going through his head, but he does not have very good views and he cannot effectively backup his reasoning.

personal info

Yes, i have. i only give it out to friends i know and have met in person though. not to random strangers i've met on the internet. I'm pretty confident of the security of my identity and my safety in itself. I honestly don't take measures to protect my security in anyway.
-Landon K

Question #3

Of course I do. Everyone does. It's impossible to create a social networking profile without having some sort of identity attached to it and available to the public. There's nothing wrong with it either. People are always saying that you could be looked for and kidnapped and all this weird stuff. It's gonna happen anyway cause that's just how messed up our culture is.
I do have some sort of privacy on my social networking like blocking specific people and not allowing people I don't know to post on my wall, but that's about it. If people are too worried about their identity getting out, then they should just not have a profile.

3

Yes, personal information about me is available online. But i would never put anything that important about me online. If it would put me in danger or tell people too much about me, i wouldn't put it out there. Apparently facebook says they keep your info safe, but you can't be too sure. So i always put in a few fake things about me, like my birthday or where i live. I would never put where i live exactly on any website or social media thing online.

Question #2

No controls should be placed on blogs. Blogs are a great way for ordinary people to voice their thoughts and ideas. Besides, putting restrictions on blogs would be against the amendment for Freedom of Speech. Blogs can be away to distribute power, but usually it's only famous people or people with an extraordinary cause that create power. Though, there have been some ordinary people that do have famous blogs that empower people.
There are so many ways for famous people to take control of people simply because they are famous. Blogs are a route for ordinary people to reach fame or to simply spread a cause. There should be more ways for people like us to spread ideas.

blog controlling

Blogs should not be controlled. Peoples ideas are to be expressed freely without interference from others. Opinion will no longer be an opinion if is filtered or blocked by the blog itself, the blog will then become useless and pointless.
-Landon

Controls on blogs

If people are going to have blogs that they create than they should be able to put whatever they want on there, except of course for very bad things. Blogs were created for people to put their ideas down and just kinda talk to people. If people don't like the blog then they shouldn't read it and they should just ignore it. If people chose to look at only what they want and not others, then there shouldn't need to be controlling of blogs. Blogs can be used to distribute news and media.
