The penny press was made for quicker faster printing. That happened because the literacy rates of the population was growing so there was a growing demand for books and newspapers.

yellow journalism was created because the people wanted a relief or some comedy in there newspapers. so naturally the companies obliged. comics were created. witch was soon called yellow journalism.
