I think the impact of blockbuster mentality on movies is overrated I think you should take risks if you don't you won't ever find anything new. Profit is always a good thing but it shouldn't be a major factor in whether or not you make a movie. For example the Lightning Thief made no money if lost over $50 million in the long run but there are still people who are in love with that movie. If they didn't make that movie they wouldn't know what to do with themselves.
Another example of a movie that didn't make a profit would be Forrest Gump. It is an amazing movie but still came up $31 million short. It made $667 million but yet there was no profit. Sometimes you just have to take a risk and you might find something new and exciting that you will never be able to live without again.
